Madonna Announces New Clothing Line For Teens

Madonna is preparing to launch a new line of clothing for the younger set, teaming up with designers to create a collection just for teenage girls set to hit stores in the fall.
The platinum-selling platinum blond and her own daughter, Lourdes, collaborated on a fashion line for teenage girls that debuts this August exclusively at Macy’s.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - known as much for her outrageous fashion sense as her nine Grammy Awards - will roll out the line just in time for back-to-school shopping.
Don’t expect bullet bras or leather bustiers. The “Material Girl” collection - clothing, footwear, handbags and jewelry - will initially be available only at 200 Macy’s stores and online.
Tees and Tops
It’s expected that the Material girl line will also include great line of cool T Shirts and of course jeans, the all-important fashion basic in any teen’s wardrobe. Move over Mek denim. Madonna jeans will likely set fire to the denim world in a way we haven’t seen since Levi Strauss felt the heat from Jordache and of course Calvin Klein.
It’s a new world for Madonna to conquer after selling more than 200 million albums on her way to international stardom.
The 51-year-old singer recently finished her “Sticky and Sweet” tour, playing to sold out audiences around the globe.
According to a news release, Lourdes, 13, helped her Material Mom create the fashion line in connection with Madonna’s partners at Iconix Brand Group Inc.
“We look forward to working with Madonna, Lourdes and the Iconix team,” said Jeff Gennette, Macy’s chief merchandising officer. “Madonna is a fashion icon who can bring a new dimension to our juniors customer.
Under the deal with Macy’s, the retail giant can launch additional brands with Madonna and Iconix.
Prices on the “Material Girl” line will range from $12 to $40, with plans already in place to introduce perfume and other beauty products beginning in 2011.

My Take: The news of Madonna’s new line of clothing for teenage girls is bound to be one of the most highly anticipated fashion industry events of the summer as young girls from St. Petersberg to Santa Monica get in line to slip into a Madonna-infused pair of jeans, graphic tees , shoes hats and accessories. Nothing creates a bigger buzz in the fashion world than news with Madonna’s name in it. And no one knows how to stir a buzz better than the Material Girl herself.
You can’t compete with teenage tastes. Sure, by the time they head off to college they have changed their minds style-wise about a gazillion times. What was hot in high school is no longer hot. They could opt for a loyal smarty-pants look featuring Greek apparel logos and school colors. They could shun the whole screen printed Greek shirts sorority look altogether and go for the grunge or the latest look from Carhartt clothing, which is industrial, tough and straight off the farm. Carhartt is also known for giving one of the other popular clothing lines with kids a run for their money. Dickies®, which can also trace its roots to the farm and workwear sector, has been a regular mainstay on the street among teens for the last decade or so. Jackets, jeans, shirts, shorts and even beachwear are part of the lineup.
Whatever Madonna’s clothing line looks or even feels like, and it’s not a stretch to think it will include some pretty fancy textile actions, her new venture is almost guaranteed to be a success. So far, pretty much everything the Material Girl does, aside from films that is, turns to gold.
